CBASP Workgroup East
CBASP East is an open work group consisting of both certified and prospective CBASP therapists in East Germany.  The main objective of the group is peer consulting for therapists who work with chronic depressive patients treated with CBASP. Additionally, CBASP techniques are tried out, and if necessary, deepened in role plays. Furthermore, the group can be used to exchange ideas in the field and discuss literature and developments regarding CBASP.

The group has been in existence since April 2008 and meets every 3 months on Friday afternoons from 4:30 to 7:30.  The meetings take place at different members’ workplaces.

CBASP in an inpatient setting
“CBASP in an inpatient setting” is an open work group consisting of both certified and prospective CBASP therapists who are implementing this form of psychotherapy in an inpatient setting.  As McCullough originally developed CBASP as an outpatient therapy, it must be modified, expanded and evaluated for inpatient use.

In the Psychiatry and Psychotherapy Department at the University Hospital in Freiburg, CBASP was implemented in Ward 5 in October 2007 as a multidisciplinary, overall concept and was then evaluated successively and systematically (Brakemeier et al., 2009). In several other hospitals, for example in Berlin, Bonn, Leipzig, Lübeck, Munich and Münster, elements of CBASP have just been introduced. Because no two hospitals are alike, differing approaches to CBASP were implemented. Most hospitals have implemented CBASP – in addition to the individual therapy – as a group concept or are planning to do so.

The main objective is networking between those hospitals that are implementing CBASP in an inpatient setting in order to ensure an open exchange of experiences, training, visits and peer consulting.  Another main goal is carrying out first collaborative studies. For example, a first naturalistic multi-center field study to test the effectiveness and feasibility of the CBASP Group “DO” (including Situational Analysis and ‘Kiesler Interpersonal Circle’ training) will be conducted in the beginning of 2010.

The workgroup has been in existence since October 2007 and meets every half year at different locations. There is a mailing list that interested parties are free to join.
